Senior Electrical Engineer

On-site
  • Somerville, Massachusetts, United States

Job description

COMPANY

At GPR, we are on a mission to unlock the full potential of autonomy through subterranean data.

Every road in the world has a unique subsurface signature. GPR uses ground penetrating radar to create a 3-D map of those subsurface signatures from which self-driving cars can navigate. By doing so, GPR's technology enables localization in even the most challenging conditions, including adverse weather or terrain, GPS availability, and other common failure points faced by autonomous vehicles and machinery today. This translates to a safer and more reliable automated driving experience.

With the ambitious goal of providing the world's most reliable localization modality to everything autonomous, GPR is a fast-growing team of visionaries making a difference in the world of mobility. From urban roads, mine sites, freight yards, to factories and warehouses, GPR's talented team is changing how people and goods move by advancing safety and accelerating the mass adoption of autonomy.

If transforming the future of mobility and working on some of the most challenging engineering problems sounds like the next step in your career, please drop us a line.

ROLE

This is a key role with a wide range of responsibilities in driving the design and development of the electronics for our ground penetrating radar systems.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You possess experience driving the development and commercialization of high-reliability electronics in the automotive radar, or other safety-focused industry.
  • Have extensive knowledge of electrical design principles, understanding the technical trade-offs, limitations and practicality of various designs
  • Curious and driven by a desire for knowledge and discovery to push the boundaries of what’s possible
  • Low ego: you take your work seriously but can laugh at yourself
  • Enjoy collaborating with small, high output teams in a fast paced startup environment
  • Self motivated, knows what needs to be done and does it
  • A “get-it-done” person. You know that done is better than perfect and are energized by constantly delivering and moving things forward.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • You will lead the electronics development for our ground penetrating radar systems, including concept architecture definition, simulation, component selection and library generation, schematic capture, layout implementation, board bring-up
  • Oversee layout resources, reviewing implementations and optimizing for signal integrity
  • Troubleshoot and debug electronics and electromechanical systems in our prototyping lab
  • Support customer engagements and derive electrical product requirements
  • Support industrialization of our sensor by leading interactions with electronics suppliers and contract manufacturers
  • Ensure product quality and compliance to regulatory requirements
  • Lead DVP and other testing in-house and with external resources

Job requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in relevant field
  • Experience with RF or radar electronics design
  • Experience with PCBA design, simulation, implementation, bring-up and testing, including troubleshooting issues and board-level rework
  • Experience with electronics lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc
  • Understanding of power electronics design, such as switching converters and LDO regulators
  • Understanding of digital electronics design with microprocessors and FPGAs, and their peripherals, including memory and ethernet physical interfaces
  • Working knowledge of digital communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C
  • Experience with schematic capture, and understanding of layout best practices to optimize signal integrity
  • Working knowledge of Altium design flows, and PCBA fabrication and assembly processes

NICE TO HAVE

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • Experience developing products for the automotive industry, or equivalent high-volume high-reliability industry
  • FPGA development with VHDL or Verilog
  • Scripting with Python or MATLAB
  • Layout experience on RF PCBAs having 12+ layers
  • Experience designing for EMC/EMI mitigation
